What is BWRT?

BWRT® stands for BrainWorking Recursive Therapy® and is a model of psychology and psychotherapy created by UK professional therapist, Terence Watts, MCGI. It's a totally confidential method that doesn't require you to reveal your private information or personal secrets to your therapist and is carried out in a completely conscious state. It doesn't use hypnosis or any mystical concepts - it's completely logical, practical and down-to-earth, and only needs you to know what you want to change in your life for it to be successful. Only bona fide BWRT practitioners have been trained to deliver BWRT® and all have to adhere to a strict ethical code.

It is based on the natural way the brain works and uses the exact same mental processes to resolve your problems as were active in causing them in the first place. Although many people don't realise it, our brain starts to react to all sorts of things before we are consciously aware of it - and this answers a good few questions:

Why we sometimes feel totally inadequate

Why we sometimes feel that everybody else in the world 'gets it'

Why, no matter how hard we try, we just can't seem to manage 'normal life'

Why we sometimes 'bury our head in the sand' about a problem

Why we sometimes have not even the slightest idea of why we feel miserable

Why we sometimes can't handle situations that others seem to find easy

Why it's usually not possible to 'just pull yourself together'

And one of the best things about BWRT is that you don't have to put up with a therapist sifting through your whole life trying to find out what caused the problems - with BWRT we don't need to know anything about that.

As long as we know what you feel like and how you want to feel instead, BWRT® can work wonders! You don't even have to tell our practitioners anything you don't want to talk about either. For instance, if you know that a certain situation makes you really anxious with other people, all you need to tell the practitioner is that you sometimes get really anxious with other people and we can work with that.

BWRT® works with the part of the brain that learns how to do things on 'automatic' pilot - it's what is often referred to as 'the subconscious'.

It helps you do things with hardly any thought, like writing your name, reciting a nursery rhyme, driving or tying shoelaces for example. It's the same part of the brain that springs into action when you accidently knock something off a shelf and your hand flies out to catch it without the tiniest pause for thought.

Unfortunately, that very same part of the brain doesn't know if you want it to do whatever it's triggering or not, so it does it anyway, and if that's firing up a panic attack or phobia, or suddenly feeling as if you're completely out of your depth with something, there's nothing you can do to stop it. And that's where we come in, helping you to change what needs to be changed to improve the quality of your life.

BWRT has been the subject of a Ph.D. awarded from Lincoln University, UK, and professors at the University of Bergen, Norway, were so impressed with it that in 2021 they funded and organised a clinical trial: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34696777/ This was delayed because of Covid issues but was restarted in 2023.

Older models of therapy

Most of the older therapy models worked with the part of the mind that experiences the problem, the conscious part of self - and the problem with that is that we have to somehow feed information back through the jungle of those conscious thoughts and processes about what we want to happen instead. Even if it's just to stop the problem from occurring, we have to get through layers of doubt, fear and experience. And it can be a time-consuming and uncomfortable process.

But with BWRT®, things are totally different, because we know exactly how to work directly with the very part that's causing the problem in the first place - and that's why so many experienced Practitioners consider BWRT® to be the fastest known effective therapy!

So powerfully effective is it that it's now being used by psychologists, counsellors, therapists and psychiatrists worldwide to help resolve all manner of psychological difficulties. It's even being used in some parts of the world to help resolve the severe PTSD that affects the military and the police - and if it can do that, it's odds on that it can help you!

FAQs

How many sessions will I need?

Unlike many common forms of therapy and counselling, BWRT often creates very rapid results.

I won't expect you to sign up to months of therapy! Following an initial, free consultation, I will recommend an approach based on the information you provide. For more straightforward problems such as fears and phobias, I may recommend only one or two sessions. For more complex issues, I will recommend the minimum duration based on my assessment and experience with similar issues. This ensures that you are not bound to an excessive amount of sessions; and will allow us to review progress before any agreement to additional sessions.

With the exception of sessions for fears and phobias, most of my clients have needed between 4 and 6 sessions - this can be considerably less that other therapies. For example, if you have Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), a programme of CBT will usually take from 12 to 20 sessions to be effective. The most complex issues can take longer to resolve, and sometimes a coaching process may be beneficial; however this is the exception, and you will never be made to feel that you must continue to work with me!

All packages include a full intake process, which is similar to a detailed assessment.

What makes BWRT Now different to other therapy providers?

All BWRT® practitioners are qualified and experienced in achieving great results!

What makes me different is my unique blended approaches and programmes, and also my personal lived experience. My approach distinguishes itself through a client-centric approach that prioritises your unique needs and goals.

Is this programme suitable if I haven’t been formally diagnosed with ADHD?

Yes, our programme is designed to help manage symptoms even if you’re awaiting a clinical assessment.

Do you offer discounts?

My fees for sessions and programmes are predetermined, and I ensure that I am providing the best value possible. The packages I provide include discounts of at least 10%.

Although I understand the pressures faced during the cost-of-living crisis, I only occasionally offer discounts. I occasionally provide a service on a pro-bono basis, however this is usually offered as a result of professional referral. My capacity to provide pro-bono services is of course exceptionally limited.
